Uncommon Path is a digital publication and newsletter that informs and empowers our millions of members to make impactful choices in their own lives and join us in advocating for change. And yes, we dig into the best gear to help you get out there—wherever out there is for you. The magazine also had newsstand print edition in 2019 available at REI stores, bookstores, groceries and airports with a nationwide circulation of 700,000.

REI’s free, online library of hundreds of articles is the primary source of outdoor education online. We help our members and the public learn outdoor skills, get tips for gear care and repair, and choose the right products for them through our product reviews and gear guides.

Editors’ Choice Awards

We honor the top-performing products in a set of rigorous field tests conducted by co-op staff and members. We also factor in how a product is made and its impact on the environment, along with REI member and customer feedback. Recipients include the equipment and apparel we’ve been recommending for years, along with the latest industry-busting products to hit shelves.
